Safety
The health and well-being of our work force is of utmost importance to us at HB Rentals. Our primary concern for our employees is that they can go home to their families each evening completely unaffected by their work activities of the day. In today's fast-paced and busy workplace, an employee's safety could be jeopardized at any moment. In order to arm our employees with the best possible tools to keep them safe, HB Rentals provides a wide range of excellent safety programs.
Training
From day one, our employees are trained on all aspects of their jobs. Their training begins with a New Hire Orientation that is facility-specific. Employees are trained in each operation in which they will be involved by veteran mentors within our company for their first six months - after which time they must prove their competency to supervisors.
Stop Work Authority
Each of our 300-plus employees has the power to stop a job or work task at any time that there is a threat to the safety of any employee involved. We proudly stand behind this program and the decisions that our employees make when using it. Each stop work occurrence is thoroughly investigated by our supervisors and managers to ensure that every piece of information is gathered and distributed to all HB Rentals locations in order to prevent any future occurrences.
Job Safety and Environmental Analyses
Our employees perform JSEAs prior to beginning any task. This ensures that all potential hazards of each task are identified, discussed and eliminated (if possible) prior to starting the work process. Our employees understand that this is the most important tool that they carry into any task.
Behavior Based Safety
Our employees participate in peer observations which allow each employee to monitor the performance of others. Each observation event consists of monitoring, interaction and feedback, in order for all employees involved to educate each other on the safe completion of work tasks. Our employees also possess cards to document the use of their Stop Work Authority or any positive actions for which they interacted and provided feedback. Information gathered from the observations as well as the SWA cards is compiled and reviewed by HSE staff to monitor and communicate trends to all employees.
Weekly Safety Communications
Each week, our QHS&E Director or another member of management provides a communication to all employees concerning their safety. These communications are shared each Monday during a safety meeting. Topics include:
- Safety Updates
- Safety Alerts
- Corrective Action Communications
- General Safety Reminders
- Safety Commendations
Safety Alerts
Safety Alerts are generated immediately upon the completion of any investigation or any industry-related event that would be beneficial to our employees. The contents of the alerts are shared during safety meetings, at which time employee participation is encouraged to discuss the alert and how it could potentially affect their safety.
Driver Skills Training
Each employee that will be assigned a vehicle as part of their job undergoes a rigorous one-day training course that consists of two hours in the classroom and four hours behind the wheel with a qualified instructor. Facility managers also evaluate driver skills with commentary drives prior to issuing company vehicles to personnel. Always prepared to go a step further, HB Rentals offers this course to all employees who wish to participate.
HSE Steering Committee
Our steering committee is constantly working hard to provide the most up-to-date information and tools to our valued employees. This committee is made up of the following positions within the company on an 18-month rotational schedule:
- Vice Presidents of Operations Regional Operations Managers
- Regional Sales Managers Regional Safety Managers
- District Operations Managers Line Supervisors
